Asthma Summer Camp

We are excited to invite you to a summer day-camp sponsored by Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital though a partnership with BREC, Humana and AmeriHealth Caritas’. Asthma Camp is staffed with asthma educators, nurses, respiratory therapists, and child life specialists. Campers participate in activities, crafts and field trips – making learning about asthma fun!Camp will be held at BREC Perkins Road Community Park, 7122 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge, LA  70808, on Monday, July 8 through Friday, July 12 from 8 a.m. -5 p.m. each day. Please make certain that you have arrangements made for drop off and pick up each day.

To attend, the child must be between the ages of 6-12 years old and have an asthma diagnosis. All campers are required to have their rescue medication (Albuterol, Pro-Air, Ventolin, Proventil), containing a medication prescription label, with them every morning when they are checked into camp. Any child that does not have their medication labeled with their name and prescription from the pharmacy, upon check in, will not be allowed to stay for that day.

We will provide lunch, light snacks, and water while at camp. Please feed your child breakfast before arrival to camp. Please do not send your child with food or drinks unless they are allergic/sensitive to the food provided for that day.

Each camper will be given 2 camp T-shirts, a water bottle, a camp backpack, and other treats! They are REQUIRED to wear a camp T-shirt, comfortable clothing, and tennis shoes each day (no flip flops or sandals), sunscreen is recommended. The backpacks and water bottles are kept at camp for use each day, but it is theirs to take home at the end of the week. On water activity field trip days, they are to wear a swimsuit (1 piece required for girls), arrive with sunscreen applied, and bring a towel.

Camp spaces are limited and are offered on a first come, first served basis. The sooner you sign up, the better!

Please register using the form below.

Cost of camp is $10, which must be paid on the first day of camp. Some scholarships are available. After registering, please print and complete the medication log, photo consent form, and BREC waiver/release form and bring these forms with you to the first day of camp.
