October 31, 2025

Jackson, MS — St. Dominic Health is proud to announce that GYN oncologist and surgeon Dr. Paul Seago has reached a remarkable milestone: 3,000 robotic surgeries performed.

“On behalf of St. Dominic Health, I want to congratulate Dr. Seago on reaching the extraordinary milestone of 3,000 robotic surgeries,” said Jeremy Tinnerello, market president for St. Dominic Health. “Dr. Seago’s dedication to innovation and patient care has set a new standard for surgical excellence in Mississippi and beyond. We are deeply grateful for Dr. Seago’s leadership, his commitment to advancing minimally invasive techniques, and the positive impact he has had on our patients and community. Thank you, Dr. Seago, for your unwavering pursuit of excellence and for inspiring your colleagues every day.”

As an early adopter of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and da Vinci® robotic technology, Dr. Seago completed his first robotic procedure in 2005.

“Reaching the milestone of 3,000 robotic surgeries is not only a personal achievement but also a testament to the advancements in medical technology and the dedication of our entire surgical team,” said Dr. Seago. “Each procedure represents our commitment to providing the highest level of care and the best possible outcomes for our patients. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together and look forward to continuing to push the boundaries of what is possible in robotic surgery.”

Key Achievements:

  • Third surgeon (all specialties) ever to perform a da Vinci® procedure in Mississippi. Over 600 surgeons statewide have now used this technology.
  • First GYN/ONC or GYN surgeon in Mississippi to perform a da Vinci® procedure.
  • Has utilized all five generations of da Vinci® technology.
  • Ranks in the top 4% nationwide for lifetime da Vinci® procedure volume in GYN Oncology.

  • In his direct peer group (~18,500 GYN/ONC and GYN surgeons), Dr. Seago also ranks in the top 1%.
  • Dr. Seago has played a pivotal role in training and mentoring many of the region’s current robotic GYN surgeons, helping drive innovation in MIS across Jackson and Mississippi.

Impact of Robotic Surgery in Mississippi:

  • In 2005, only 71 da Vinci® procedures were performed statewide; in 2024, that number reached 19,126.
  • In 2024 alone, 5,553 GYN da Vinci® procedures were performed in Mississippi (432,202 in the U.S.).
  • In the Jackson market, 81% of women received a robotic approach for benign hysterectomy in the past year.
  • Nationally, the open rate for benign hysterectomy was over 60% in 2005, highlighting the shift toward minimally invasive techniques.

These achievements not only reflect Dr. Seago’s personal dedication and leadership but also highlight the broader commitment of St. Dominic Health to advancing patient care through innovation and collaboration.
