FMOL Health Brings ‘Chart with Art’ Implementation to Scale, Launches First-in-Country Use Cases
April 30, 2026
BATON ROUGE, La. – Today, FMOL Health, a leading regional healthcare provider in Louisiana and Mississippi, announces the launch of a systemwide rollout of Epic AI Charting, known as “Chart with Art.”
A built-in feature of the widely used Epic electronic health record system, the new AI ambient listening and clinical notetaking tool released in February is designed to help transform clinical workflows, reduce physician burnout and minimize administrative time, while improving quality of patient care. FMOL Health is the first health system in the world to implement Chart with Art in emergency departments and the first five Epic clients to use the tool in the ambulatory setting.
Clinical leaders at FMOL Health say the rapidly developing technology allows more time for human connection between patient and physician, while improving patient access and clinical documentation.
Using a simple recording—always begun with a patient's consent—the technology can turn a free-flowing conversation between a patient and a provider into useful documentation of a patient's background, assessment and next steps, ultimately facilitating a more collaborative face-to-face encounter.
“I love that I can rely on the AI to accurately summarize the patient's story. This lets me take my hands off the keyboard and focus fully on listening to the patient instead of worrying about capturing every detail in real time,” said Rebecca Curran, MD, medical director of informatics and clinical efficiency and physician with FMOL Health | Our Lady of Lourdes Physician Group.
“This helps me stay present with the patient while significantly reducing the time I spend after clinic documenting decisions I've already made. During the visit, I'm able to focus on clearly explaining the plan to the patient, knowing that the AI will translate that conversation into a solid note draft that I can edit, revise and improve quickly.”
A longtime pioneer in using innovative technologies to reduce administrative workload, improve operational efficiency and enhance patient care, FMOL Health implemented Epic’s AI Charting tool across its four markets through a 60-day early adopter program to test and customize the system this spring. FMOL Health providers supplied input and feedback to customize the technology and worked closely with the Epic research and development team to address changes quickly.
Early data gathered shows a high adoption rate among providers. Qualitative results point to lower physician burnout, reduced administrative time, and increased patient satisfaction.
“Epic Chart with Art has been a game changer,” said Stephen Hosea, MD, inpatient and emergency department chief medical information officer, FMOL Health | Our Lady of the Lake. “It has allowed one of our highest volume and clinically complex surgeons to embrace patient interactions with renewed spirit. The technology’s contribution to physician joy of medicine and patient experience are clear with Epic Chart with Art.”
The system-wide rollout will ultimately make Chart with Art available to outpatient and emergency department clinicians across FMOL Health's 10 hospitals and affiliated clinics, including Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, St. Dominic Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center and Our Lady of the Angels Hospital.
“Chart with Art is helping clinicians worldwide spend more time focused on their patients," said Seth Howard, executive vice president of research and development at Epic. "FMOL Health was one of the first organizations to use it, and their early input helped us get it right. We’re excited to see them now making it available across their entire organization.”
