FMOL Health | Our Lady of the Lake Among Five U.S. Centers Offering GI Windows Magnetic Anastomosis Platform

June 24, 2026

Baton Rouge, LA - FMOL Health | Our Lady of the Lake is proud to be among the first five U.S. centers offering the GI Windows magnetic anastomosis platform, an innovative surgical technology that uses magnets to help create an anastomosis, or a surgical connection between two parts of the gastrointestinal tract.

Surgeons at Our Lady of the Lake Robotic Surgery Institute recently performed their first procedure using the platform, marking a major milestone in the hospital’s continued commitment to bringing leading-edge treatment options to patients close to home.

“Patients in Louisiana deserve access to the same specialized care available at leading medical centers across the country,” said Chuck Spicer, president, FMOL Health | Our Lady of the Lake. “Offering this technology reflects the strength of our surgical teams and our commitment to bringing highly specialized care closer to home.”

An anastomosis is commonly performed in gastrointestinal surgery when surgeons need to reconnect sections of the digestive tract. The GI Windows platform is designed to use magnetic compression to help create that connection, offering surgeons another innovative approach in an evolving field of care.

“Our team is always looking for ways to safely improve surgical care and the patient experience,” said Mark Hausmann, MD, FACS, FASMBS. “This platform gives us another tool to support complex gastrointestinal procedures and continue raising the standard of care for the communities we serve.”

By adopting the GI Windows platform, Our Lady of the Lake is expanding access to emerging surgical technology for patients in Baton Rouge and across the Gulf South. The milestone also builds on the hospital’s growing portfolio of advanced surgical programs and reflects its role as a regional destination for complex care.
