FMOL Health | Our Lady of the Lake Livingston Celebrates Completion of New Emergency Department Observation Unit

Baton Rouge, LA - FMOL Health | Our Lady of the Lake Livingston recently celebrated the completion of its new Emergency Department Observation Unit alongside community leaders, partners and team members, marking an important step in meeting the growing healthcare needs of Livingston Parish.
The 10-bed unit is the first and only overnight observation unit of its kind in the parish. It is designed to provide short-term monitoring and treatment for patients who require additional evaluation, allowing more individuals to remain local for care rather than being transferred outside the community.
“For patients and families, this means more than convenience, it means greater confidence in where and how care is delivered,” said Chuck Spicer, president of FMOL Health | Our Lady of the Lake. “This unit allows our teams to closely monitor patients, make informed decisions and ensure each person receives care aligned to their needs. It also gives us the ability to be more present in those critical moments, offering care that is rooted in our calling to serve others.”
The observation unit supports patients who need extended monitoring while strengthening how care is coordinated within the emergency department. Care is delivered by board-certified emergency medicine physicians and experienced advanced practice providers in a dedicated environment focused on timely evaluation and appropriate care decisions.
By improving patient flow and supporting timely clinical decisions, the observation unit helps ensure patients receive the right level of care at the right time. This new unit reflects FMOL Health’s continued investment in strengthening local healthcare infrastructure and delivering care in ways that are more connected, responsive, and centered on the needs of the community.
