Our Lady of the Lake Health and Traction Sports Performance Announce Joint Venture

November 15, 2023

Our Lady of the Lake Health and Traction Sports Performance have announced an innovative partnership that aims to elevate sports performance training and athletic medical care in the Capital Region — from youth and high school to collegiate athletes and adults.

The joint venture will combine Our Lady of the Lake’s medical expertise with Traction’s integrated training system, helping to improve athletic performance, decrease injury potential, reduce rehabilitation time, and develop athletes that are educated and motivated to maximize their health and performance.

“This partnership brings together the top sports performance and sports medicine institutions in the region to provide world-class care to our community’s athletes,” said Our Lady of the Lake Health President Chuck Spicer. “Over our 100-year history, Our Lady of the Lake has been a catalyst for collaborating and bringing together the very best care for our community.”

Through this joint venture, participants in Traction programs will have closer access to the Our Lady of the Lake Health Sports Medicine team with onsite physician presence and a seamless referral process to Our Lady of the Lake specialists and testing. They will also have access to cutting-edge research through Our Lady of the Lake’s Championship Health Partnership with Louisiana State University.

“This relationship with Our Lady of the Lake will take Traction to the next level and allow us to serve more children and families in the community,” said Mack Chuilli, Traction Sports Performance CEO and Performance Director. “Together, these two community institutions will transform sports performance and medicine, helping to make champions in both athletics and health.”

The new partnership is the result of Our Lady of the Lake purchasing a 40 percent minority stake in Traction Sports Performance and Traction Sports Management. Traction Sports Performance operates all Traction facilities and programming at their 45-acre Burbank Drive complex, excluding Traction Sports Therapy. Traction Sports Management is responsible for the management and operation of all other venues and programming in the state of Louisiana, in addition to youth sports events hosted throughout the Gulf South which attract thousands of athletes each year.

“The benefits of Our Lady of the Lake and Traction working together won’t only be felt by the upper echelon of athletes,” said Catherine O’Neal, MD, Our Lady of the Lake Health Chief Medical Officer. “Youth sports, collegiate athletics, and even weekend warriors will all benefit from the advancements we’re making. By combining Traction’s integrated training system with Our Lady of the Lake’s medical expertise, we will help improve athletic performance, decrease injury potential, reduce rehabilitation time, and create athletes that are educated and motivated to maximize their health and performance.”

The partnership between Our Lady of the Lake Health and Traction Sports Performance aims to train and sustain the next generation of athletes, while also continuing to serve as a community safe space for adolescents to develop healthy living skills.

Traction currently provides athletes of all ages and skill levels with personalized customized training regimens designed to optimize workouts while preventing injury. This new collaboration will help seamlessly connect Traction athletes to Our Lady of the Lake sports medicine providers and resources in the event of an injury or to assist in overall medical care.
