Our Lady of the Lake Health to Implement Abbott’s GLP systems Track with Smart CAR Technology
September 18, 2025
Baton Rouge, LA - Our Lady of the Lake Health, part of Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, has completed the installation of Abbott’s GLP systems Track, bringing innovative smart CAR (self-propelled carrier) technology to Baton Rouge for the first time. This advanced automation system helps laboratories meet high-volume demand, eliminates more than 80% of manual steps, minimizes errors, and improves reliability so patients receive accurate results faster.
“At Our Lady of the Lake, our mission is to extend the healing ministry of Jesus by bringing the highest quality of care to the people we serve,” said Chuck Spicer, president of Our Lady of the Lake Health. “The installation of Abbott’s GLP systems Track reflects that mission in action. This technology not only strengthens the accuracy and reliability of the testing our patients depend on, but also ensures our providers have the information they need to make timely, life-saving decisions.”
GLP systems Track Features
GLP systems Track showcases the intelligent self-propelled single sample carrier – called CAR. Samples move independently, not attached to rigid, fixed mechanized track systems. This reduces mechanical failures that can stop the entire system, guaranteeing continuous operations and providing the flexibility to adapt as laboratory needs change.
This technology allows samples to move freely throughout the system without a belt, increasing flexibility for labs and boosting performance. The smart CAR design streamlines operations so laboratory teams can focus on quality, accuracy, and delivering the best results to patients and providers.
“Laboratory work impacts nearly every patient who comes through our doors,” said Jim Teague, senior director of core laboratory and blood services at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. “Abbott’s GLP systems Track will transform how our team operates. By removing repetitive manual steps, we can put more focus on accuracy, safety, and efficiency, which means providers and patients can trust that the results they receive are both timely and reliable.”
Up to 70% of medical decisions depend on lab test results. Abbott’s GLP systems Track strengthens quality of care by automating lab operations while also helping reduce costs in healthcare. The system’s unique technology makes work easier, faster, and simpler, while taking the guesswork out of sample sorting and transportation.
Additional Advantages
-
Samples travel automatically throughout the system
-
Customizable to meet each lab’s demand and maximize output
-
Works seamlessly with lab technicians and staff, making workflows more efficient
-
Enhances safety by minimizing staff contact with patient blood samples and reducing exposure to biomedical waste
Across different care settings, this automation system can handle up to 25,000 test tubes each day, improving result delivery for patients while helping reduce operational costs and eliminate manual errors.
