FMOL Health | St. Dominic Launches New Early Detection Lung Program
March 24, 2026
Jackson, Miss. – FMOL Health | St. Dominic is expanding its comprehensive cancer services with the launch of a new Early Detection Lung Program designed to improve early identification and follow-up care for patients with observed lung nodules.
A lung nodule is a small, shadowlike spot that may appear on an X-ray or CT scan. Early detection of lung cancer can reduce the relative risk of death by 20 percent, underscoring the value of consistent screening and follow-up.
FMOL Health | St. Dominic’s new program creates a clear, consistent follow-up pathway to ensure that every patient receives appropriate monitoring and timely evaluation. It improves patient safety and increases the likelihood of catching cancer early, when it is most treatable.
“The Early Detection Lung Program strengthens our commitment to reducing cancer fatalities by detecting potential problems long before symptoms appear. Even an incidental finding—a nodule discovered when a patient is being scanned for another reason—should not be ignored,” said Jeremy Tinnerello, Regional President, FMOL Health | St. Dominic and FMOL Health | St. Francis.
Early detection saves lives. Spotting lung nodules before symptoms appear leads to quicker intervention and decisive action when nodules are found to be cancerous. Many people have one or more nodules which develop after respiratory infections or other benign causes. Most are not cancerous.
“At FMOL Health | St. Dominic, healthcare is more than our business—it is our mission,” said Mechale Mayfield, senior director of oncology service line. “The Early Detection Lung Program strengthens our detection of early lung cancer and ensures patient continuity for diagnosis and treatment. Together, these efforts can improve patient outcomes and fight against lung cancer through early detection and treatment.”
