LAFAYETTE, LA – As part of its $100 million Advancing Acadiana strategic investment, Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s & Children’s Hospital has opened its modernized Mother-Baby Unit, expanding comfort, privacy, and family‑centered support for mothers and newborns. The upgraded unit enhances the postpartum experience with new patient rooms, advanced safety features, and amenities designed to strengthen early bonding and promote healing.
The renovation marks a major enhancement to the hospital’s Women’s Services program, complementing the recent NICU expansion and aligning with future upgrades to labor and delivery and specialized women’s surgical services.
“This renovation allows us to elevate the level of care and comfort we provide families during one of the most meaningful moments of their lives,” said Alesha Alford, vice president of women’s and children’s services, Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s & Children’s Hospital. “This new space strengthens our ability to support women throughout every stage of their journey and empowers our dedicated care teams to deliver the exceptional experience families deserve.”
The refreshed Mother-Bay Unit includes:
- Larger patient rooms offering 60% more space, enhancing comfort, mobility and support for mothers, newborns, and families at the bedside
- Modern private rooms designed for rest, recovery, and family bonding
- Adjustable lighting for comfortable overnight accommodations
- Dedicated lactation support and a hospital-grade pump in every room
- Enhanced safety features, including updated security and monitoring technology
- Improved clinical workspaces that support efficiency and high‑quality care
- A multidisciplinary care team, including postpartum nurses, lactation consultants, obstetricians, pediatricians, pregnancy navigators and social workers
“Advancing Acadiana is a pledge to nurture the future of the community we serve. By investing in modern and innovative facilities, we are setting a new standard for postpartum care—one that supports mothers just as intentionally as we care for their babies,” said Stephanie Manson, president of FMOL Health | Our Lady of Lourdes. “This new unit reinforces our commitment to comprehensive, compassionate, family‑centered care. It’s one more way we are shaping the future of health care in Acadiana, ensuring families have access to the most modern, supportive postpartum experience available.”
