Enhanced Primary Care Experience

Our primary care pediatric residency program at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital offers:

  • More focus on providing enhanced primary care experience:
  • Specialized training that is one of the few primary care programs in the U.S.
  • Up to three residents in each class are designated primary care program residents

Who should consider the primary care program?

  • If you are interested in primary care and think that is what you are leaning toward, THIS IS FOR YOU!
  • Interests in advocacy, community outreach and learning more about the entire ambulatory pediatrics practice including the business side of medicine
  • Flexibility to switch out of the primary care program if you find passion in a specialty
    • Many of our past residents continued on the program and found the training beneficial in the subspecialty arena

What makes our program different?

  • Continuity clinics:
    • Working with preceptors in general pediatric clinics around the Greater Baton Rouge community
    • Clinic days are full days instead of half. This doubles the amount of time available in clinic for continuity days
  • More primary care months:
    • Full months each year spent in the clinic (minimum one month per year)
    • More variety—elective time can be used for primary care at community clinics, including school-based or outreach clinics
  • Specialized Primary Care Journal Clubs:
    • Quarterly journal clubs specifically on primary care topics
  • Individualized career development for outpatient pediatrics
