At St. Francis Medical Center, we’re launching an exciting Graduate Medical Education program for the northeast Louisiana region. This begins with an Internal Medicine Residency Program that’s recruiting for its inaugural class taking place during the 2022-2023 recruitment season.
The Graduate Medical Education program will transform St. Francis from a regional medical center to an academic medical center. We will provide hands-on education for generations of medical professionals, many of whom will practice medicine locally after graduation, ensuring your family’s health and well-being for years to come. As an academic medical center, St. Francis will also develop new technologies using outcomes-based research to better care for our patients.
We welcome all individuals who are interested in applying to our internal medicine program to attend one of these events and meet the program faculty. Our staff will provide insight on what the program has to offer and will help answer any questions that are presented. Questions about either event? Please call (318) 966-7172.
Learn about admission requirements and the application process.
Our hospital was established in 1913 by six Franciscan Sisters in a three-story red brick building. Today, we are northeast Louisiana's largest healthcare provider with an acute-care hospital with 317-beds, a freestanding outpatient center and more than 20 outpatient clinics. We have more than 1,800 team members and nearly 350 physician partners committed to caring for those we serve.
In March 2021, we received initial accreditation to begin work on the Internal Medicine Residency Program. That included the recruitment of faculty, partnership with our local medical school and a 7,000-square-foot renovation to create our 7th floor Academic Affairs Suite. This new academic endeavor fits in with our mission to be a healing presence for the communities we are privileged to serve.
